Where are you going, where have you been?

I'm lucky enough to have a closet filled with clothes, albeit my claims that I "have nothing to wear."  I find it a waste to always save certain pieces of clothing for special occasions, so I thought I would wear this skirt that I had only worn once before.  I thought it was casual enough, but practically everyone in my family asked "Where are you going?"  I tend to be asked this a lot, and it always brings to mind Joyce Carol Oates' short story, "Where are you going, where have you been?"  The story (and Oates' writing in general) is really creepy and dark, so I don't recommend it to most people.  But I digress.
I essentially just wore this to do homework, mock trial things, and chores, and it made me feel like a glamorous Cinderella or something.

If I may ask, what did you guys do today?  Where are you going?  Or where have you been?  Surely it was more interesting than what I did today.

Homecoming

Last week was completely void of posts not only because I wear a uniform to school (and it's not even a cute, preppy one), but also because we had Spirit Week for homecoming!  I helped out with the costumes and other random things so it was all really exhausting but super fun because my whole school gets really into it.
It's a competition between the grades and we get points for each dress up day, our pepper squad, poster, and other activities.  Our theme this year was "Disney with a twist" and the senior's theme was Aladdin.
These are just some pictures from the dress up days.

Monday was "Rock Day"--I had to avoid the temptation to dress up like a geological rock, because I was told I wouldn't be counted and our grade would be docked off points.

Fur collar: Hollister (taken from a jacket), Leopard jacket: Gifted from my Aunty (she got it somewhere in Vegas--go figure), Shirt: Brandy Melville, Leggings: LnA via PacSun, Boots: H&M
Tuesday was Royalty Day.  Sorry I don't have any better pictures.

Blouse & flats: Thrifted, Skirt: Papaya, Necklace: Ann Taylor
Wednesday was Class Shirt Day and I don't have any pictures of that because it's pretty boring.  Thursday was Theme Day.  Ours was Aladdin so we all dressed up very Aladdin/Arabian-esque.  Someone even dressed up as the magic carpet! (although I don't have a picture of it.)

And finally, here we are with the Mana Cup because the Seniors won!  All of our hard work paid off in the end in we won by a landslide.  This week was definitely a week I'll never forget.

red velvet

These pictures were from today when I did homework and went shopping with my mom for Spirit Week stuff.  The days we get to dress up for are : Rock Day (as in Rock & Roll, not a geological rock), Royalty Day, Class Shirt Day, Theme Day (my grade's theme is Aladdin--the movie), and Black Gold & White Day.  I actually changed out of this into the jacket from my "cactus" post because the velvet blazer was too fancy.  I guess I was just too eager to wear it.

Velvet blazer: Thrifted, Necklace: Forever 21, Shorts: Ross

I'm probably a little late on the velvet and red bandwagons, but I've been looking for colored denim and these were cheap and I loved the color!  And I've had the necklace for a while now.  It was originally gold but I've worn it so often that the gold wore away and it's silver now.  It's so basic and I literally wear it with everything!

i live for ugly sweaters

These pictures were actually from Friday when I went shopping with my friends.  At the last minute we decided to go, so I had to rush home and change out of my hideous school uniform into an acceptable outfit.  I picked this out in a couple minutes and I like how it turned out!  I bought a few things with my friends Aeropostale employee discount.  I usually don't shop there but they had a beautiful ugly sweater (oxymoron), XL knit cardigan, and velvet skirt.  I'm proud to say that 2/3 of the things that I bought were deemed hideous by the staff.  Maybe I'll post pictures of them later.  I live for ugly sweaters.
The sweater (which I don't think is ugly) was a gift from my friend for my birthday and the boots were from my sister.  Both were things I picked out myself, it's a lot easier that way.

Sweater: Roxy via Pacsun, Shorts & necklace: Forever 21, Bag: Jeans Warehouse, Boots: Target

None of the pictures have my face in it because my sister refuses to take pictures with my face in it because she says I'm too awkward.

cactus

My sister took these pictures and I'm forever awkward in front of a camera so she decided she would make me pose like plants.  Example: "You're a cactus!  You're a flower!" (Hence, the post title.  I know, I'm clever.)  However, these are not the pictures in which I'm posing like a plant, in case you were wondering.  I am, however, posing with a guitar, which I cannot play.  It's my sister's and I just wanted to feel like the hippie-artist-nerd that I truly am.
I should probably say that I wore this to a New Year's Day party at my Aunty's house.
It was awkward.  Because I'm awkward.  I watched children play Wii Sports and Just Dance 3.  But I'm really not creepy, I promise.
Jacket, Shorts (yes, they're shorts), and Bag: random brands from Jeans Warehouse, Necklace: f21

You can kind of see my failed attempt at ombre hair in the picture above.
Also, how cool are these tricky little shorts!  It looks like a skirt but then you spread your legs (like a lady, of course) they're pants!  I thought they were cool.

Peace out,
Noel

New year, new blog

Happy New Year everyone, we're Noel and Sheena and welcome to our blog Luminosa Mariposa.  We are two nerdy, lifelong friends who love fashion.  We created this blog to use as an outlet to keep us busy and creative.  I (Noel) also wanted this blog to help save my memories, since I admittedly have the memory of an ant with half a brain. Thanks for visiting and enjoy!

Dress: James and Joy via LMS Boutique, Necklace: Valerie Joseph, Heels: Nine & Co., Bag: Vintage
This is Sheena.  She is the Asian version of Anne Hathaway (although she won't admit it) and she is incredibly smart, tall, beautiful, and sarcastic.  She's also extremely spastic and whenever she goes shopping she knocks at least one item off of the rack.

Dress worn as top: Ross dress for less, Shorts: DIY thrifted, Cardigan: Nollie via PacSun, Flats: Thrifted

This is Noel.  She is a girl who people often mistake for being Mexican and/or Native American.  She is neurotic, the biggest nerd you will ever meet, and often feels awkward (especially when writing in 3rd person).  She's also very sarcastic.

Happy 2012 everyone!
